Recently, I was in Italy for the League of Fire Intercontinental Belt Match. Upon my return, a parcel was waiting for me at my neighbour’s house.
All the way from Hungary, I received one of the most wonderful and heart-warming gifts I’ve ever been given. I opened the box to find 6 incredible looking chilli peppers, with a simple message written on the paper bag that contained them.

This was sent to me by my dear friend Laszlo Diczko. The memories alone of meeting Laszlo and his family, firstly at 2am at Debrecen airport, were enough for me to cherish. I was totally overcome with emotion to discover that Laszlo has created a new superhot pepper in my honour.
The peppers were a bit soft and the freshness had escaped by the time I was able to hold them in my own hands! But, with Laszlo’s blessing, I shall keep the seeds safe and hopefully some people can grow these Rose of Shahina peppers for many years to come!
I am truly humbled by this gesture of our friendship and truly blessed to have met Laszlo and his family a couple of years ago. I hope to return to Kaba soon and see his amazing farm again.
It’s the most incredible thing to have a pepper created for and named after me. The thought that this will be the most wonderful legacy for me with a pepper that the world will be eating long after I’m gone from this world. I don’t know of any other chilli-eaters who’ve had a pepper created in their honour. To have someone like Laszlo, with an intrinsic understanding and knowledge of the science of growing peppers, do this for me totally unexpectedly to mark my eating peppers for over a decade has completely blown me away and my feelings I can’t even express properly.
I can’t wait for the next few years to come, as Rose of Shahina becomes more and more established. ❤️❤️❤️
